Up until the 50th anniversary I never liked 911's. With all the coverage I started reading more about them and started to appreciate the little differences. Making this even stranger I have always loved Corvairs as long as I've known what a Corvair was.
What's your secret Oppo?

It's a secret.

I have many. The one I will tell that only a few people know is this. I don't have girlfriend.

I'm looking at Dodge Nitros as a replacement for my Safari.
So long as it has a 4.0L V6 and 4-wheel drive.

My secret is while I admire air-cooled 911s, I wouldn't actually want to drive one because they're too narrow inside. The front seats are practically touching each other, the pedals are offset way to the right, and the footrest (a.k.a. the other side of the wheelwell that intrudes into the cabin) is too close to you compared to the pedals so each of your legs is extended a different amount.

I don't like 911's either.
Porsche took leftover Beetle technology from the 30s and said "Let's make a sports car with this stuff and sell it for a ton of money!"
Plenty of other cars would've wiped the floor with one for much less money and yet the 911 is one of the halo cars for many enthusiasts somehow. I don't get it.
The air cooled/rear engine layout makes sense for ecoboxes like the Corvair and Beetle, but I've always struggled to understand the appeal of 911 other than brand perceptibility

A nitro isnt a bad car, its just kinda meh

I hated Corvettes until the C7 came out. I did not care for them one bit, not a single generation of the Corvette appealed to me in any way.
Then the C7 appeared and it was as if the clouds were parted by the Angels themselves. God damn, that is an awesome car I thought to myself.

I still don't like 911's. They are a car that is fast in spite of their ass backwards design, not because of it. I hate them because they epitomize conservative automotive design, they're worse than Toyota, they have built the same fundamental car for 50 years, with the same melted VW bug style.
Here's the secret: I still respect the engineering behind them that's necessary to get a car so "wrong" to perform as well as it does.

They're the anti-christ if you ask some people in the car community.
I've always liked the styling, plastic interior be damned.

More money for car stuff!

4.0 straight six? Or did Mopar make a 4.0 V6?

I wouldn't say I hated corvettes, but they weren't my cup of tea, the C1's and the early boxy C4 were my favorites, but now the C7... all of my wants.

Or other stuff that I don't need that I keep wasting money on that I should be saving for a car and car stuff.

Why are they the antichrist? Theyre neither poorly styled, or mechanically insufficient. Theyre just crossovers, and crossovers are bad

They made a 4.0L V6. I know it was also in the mini-vans. Not sure what else it saw life in.

I dunno. I for one like crossovers. Even though I consider it an SUV because it's RWD based 4-wheel drive.

I loved the classic Stingrays when I was a kid and then I started to hate all Corvettes, until the C5 Z06. Now I hate the new Z06 because it doesn't feel special to me.

I never had an issue with air cooled or rear engine platform. I just felt each generation was too much like the previous one and nothing really big ever changed.

I actually don't mind those things. I wasn't aware of the 4.0 in it though. Thought they were all 3.7's

You should get a Subaru Forester XT.

C2 Stingrays were one of the ones that annoyed me the most, because back when I used to go to classic car shows with my Dad, I'd see literally fucking hundreds of them everywhere.

The platform makes sense because it saves space (good for ecobox) and lends itself to efficient air cooling because of the low pressure zone behind the car. This lets you use a cheap, simple air cooled motor and optimize interior space in a small car.
Why you would use this platform in a sports car beats me. It has some certain handling benefits, but nearly every other platform has either better or more predictable handling.
They had to elongate and deform the Beetle's shape for handling reasons, which makes it less space efficient. They dont have cheap motors (aluminum cranks and other things). They have macpherson struts and torsion bars (blergh, ew).
The more I think about them the less I like them; their prices certainly doesn't help me like them.

How odd.
Funny story about a Nitro
Me and 3 friends got kicked out of one at the Detroit Auto Show 3 years ago LOL
all 4 of us sat in every seat, must have been in it for 45 minutes. NO ONE wanted to sit in the Nitro's and we were chill the whole time. I have NO IDEA why we were kicked out of it for spending that much time in it or why we spent 45 minutes in a Nitro for no reason lol

My relationship with 911s has been exactly the same as yours.

I agree, every local car show I've been to has had a Corvette problem. It's one of those cars where
lots produced + high desireability = large percentage of classic car market
However, there's this one guy locally with a Studebaker Golden Hawk that he takes out to the shows. Now that's a genuinely interesting car.

Why not a Jeep Liberty?
